...thoughts, opinions, experiences, ect. The following is cut/paste from the Hondata forum.
Here is my current setup:
'00 Si
stock JRSC
stock b16a
Comptech Icebox
DC 4-2-1 ceramic coated header
test pipe
Thermal exhaust
stage 4b
RC 440 injectors
This last Saturday I had a CRV crank pulley installed. That night I tried to datalog a third gear pull. Two things went awry.
First: I got onto the tollway entrance and put the car into third gear @ about 3500 rpms and accelerated. Somewhere around 4000-5000 rpms the engine cut out and I glanced at the boost gauge. It appeared to indicate 12-13psi. I still have the factory map sensor. I immediately let off the throttle and eased up to the toll booth. After going through the booth, I pulled over to check my datalog.
Second:My laptop battery died right before I came to a stop. I forced it to turn on and possibly salvage the recording. So I'm not sure if the recording is accurate.
Here's the kicker: after getting home and plugging the laptop in to use and recharge, I noticed something scary in the datalog. Boost was off the chart at 4550 rpms and the injector duty cycle was only 50%. The highest the map sensor read was 1.725mbar. It's obvious that I need a different map sensor. But has anyone encountered such high boost levels that early in the rpm band?
Thanks.
Alf

Sounds like a glitch to me. 1725 mBAR is only about 10.6 psi of boost... which is still fairly strong at 4500 rpm, but it is not unheard of. Duty cycle is a ratio comparing the time the injector is open to the time it takes for the crankshaft to make one revolution. At lower speeds, the injector can be open for the same time that you may find near redline, but since the crankshaft is moving MUCH slower, the duty cycle % will be a smaller value.
Remember that a CRV crank pulley will make FAR more boost on a B16A than it will on a GSR... simply because of displacement.

Thanks for the insight.
I guess I need to get rid of all this crap. I don't have the time, place, or knowledge to mess with it anymore. The few local people I thought I knew give me the impression of it being too much of an inconvenience to lend any ideas or direction. Being broke sux...

Nah, getting rid of it means that you let the CAR beat you !!! I know you are better than that.
heheh
Just take a few deep breaths and go back at it. If you need help, use this board... or call me at the shop.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I might have to pester you about a few things later. I'm just concerned since this is my only means of transportation now. I was hoping swapping pulleys would be plug and play since I already had a base map for the stepper pulley. Wrong! I should have a gm 3 bar sensor next week. We'll see if my block blows up or not...
